DESIGNING A FLIPPED CLASS

 HI EVERYONE!

How are you? I hope you are great because I am not, because of designing a flipped class for my future lessons.😞

You may be asking what is the flipped class and why are you designing it, keep reading I'll share every nightmare-like detail.

2 weeks ago we learned the flipped class approach and our insturctor assigned us to create a flipped class. It is a class that enables students to learn at home, practice at class. It lets students learn at their own pace with pre-class materials and focus on activities in class. It encourages active learning and allows teachers to provide more support. However, it relies on technology, which not all students may have, and some might not prepare in advance.

As always, we needed to work in groups, so I worked with my friends Fatma Reyhan Tug and Hayrunnisa Azbay. It could be a vocabulary or a grammatical teaching lesson but we chose a vocabulary lesson. As our target learners are 5th grade ESL learners we examined their syllabus of the year and chose the unit “Daily Routines”.

First, each group member chose 3 words to teach. Second, we looked for the tool to use and then, we found related photos and videos related to our words. Next, we decided to use Animaker to teach our class, prepeared the slides and added our voices. Finally, we added an exercise for students to make at the end of the lesson.

We designed the picture-vocabulary matching exercise on the site book widgets, if you are interested in it was easy to use and fun. I recommend you to use it for yourselves and your learners.

To talk about the tool we used, animaker, I hated it. It wasn’t suitable for collaborative working, the site constantly froze. I can say it was an awful experience and I hated all the processes of the work.

Altough it was hardly done, our work is praiseworthy. Please watch the video I am sharing, and add comments. This is our video please click to watch.

If you have any questions on how to design a lesson plan for a flipped class, don't worry. This is the ASSURE PLAN of our flipped class, you can take a look at it!

See you soon. Take care.
