My Journey in Digital Storytelling
Hi to you!
It’s been a while I hope you are all good.
In this post I’m writing about the recent assignment that our instructor gave us. For this assignment we were supposed to be paired up and create a digital story in 2 weeks.
I’ll talk about it’s procedure and my feelings & thoughts on this assignment but first I want to thank to my dear partner Fatma Reyhan Tug for making this difficult journey easier. Since we’ve done the previous task together, we easily divided up the tasks of this assignment too.
Our assignment was include 3 options us to choose. We chose the last option, a fictional story. I think turning a fictional story into a digital story has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand you are free to do what you want but on the other hand it is too broad that you can’t decide what to do as it is upto your imagination. To talk about our assignment, deciding on the story was one of the hardest parts. Thanks to my peer who wrote this story, we have a wonderful video now!
Time Waits For No One NOT EVEN FOR THE CLOCK
Our digital story’s name is Time Waits For No One- Not Even The Clock. It’s name comes from The Rolling Stones song that my peer loves. Thanks to her, now I know the song and I love it. Our story is about a girl who studies her last exam to graduate. And we have one more character who lives in a clock and in charge of ringing the clock and waking up the girl. Our main question is “Will Mr. Clock manage to return in time and wake up Sarah?”
After deciding on the story, we talked about characters, backgrounds, dialogues. And we created our digital story by using Pixton. We had a story board and we used it to create scenes on the Pixton. Using pixton made me to spend lots of my time at first as I didn’t understand how to use it. But when I created 3-4 scenes I learned how to use it. We created our scenes and recorded our own voices. Even though we don’t like and prefer recording our voice, that part was fun I believe.
☠️Editing ☠️: Ahhh! It was the worst part! Adding sounds, sound effects, and music to this video made me crazy! It takes soooooooooooooo muchhhh time and adding all of them in a video of 2 minutes was the other challange. I wish pixton had an video editing feature. It was full of challanges but eventually we made it!
To wrap it up, I found this assignment challenging and now, I understand why our instructor gave us 2 weeks! Although all the hardships we encounter during the task, we loved the outcome! I want to thank to my peer for her great contributions and her hardwork and our instructor for giving such a entertaining assignment.
